Coney Island Building Scream Zone Mini Park

Coney Island, of Brooklyn, New York, is building a new $12 million mini amusement park for more mature guests that will feature two new roller coasters as well as several other thrill rides. The new mini park — named Scream Zone — should be completed by April and will bring with it Coney Island’s first coasters in more than 80 years.

Steeplechase and Soaring Eagle are the two new roller coasters for the new park. The former will be a standard family-style coaster design that pays tribute to Coney’s oldest amusement park, while the latter will be a suspended coaster. Some of the other thrill rides to be included in the new area will be a slingshot ride as well as a torpedo ride.

While Coney Island’s Luna Park has more of the traditional carnival-type rides and is geared toward the younger audience, Scream Zone is meant for mature audience. The addition of Scream Zone is expected to continue to boost attendance numbers at Coney Island, with the summer of 2010 being some of the best attendance the destination has seen in several years. The new area will double the size of Coney Island’s amusements, adding to the 19 already-existing attractions spread out across a total of six acres of fun for (quite literally) everyone.

The rides they have are very nice. But the need to look into making indoor rides something like they have in Univeral Studios in FL.

The section owned by Sitt is a disgrace. Typical real estate monger. He probably figures he’s sitting on a golden goose egg waiting for the rest of the area to be transformed then either jump in and do something with the property or sell his portion. In the mean time, his property is an eye sore.
